TOMCAT/SLIMCAT CTM
The main TOMCAT home page is now: www.see.leeds.ac.uk/TOMCAT
TOMCAT/SLIMCAT is a global off-line three-dimensional chemical transport model (CTM). The CTM can be used as an atmospheric transport model or comes with options of detailed stratospheric or tropospheric chemistry schemes. The model can also run with the GLOMAP aerosol module.
The model can be forced with different sources of winds and temperatures, though the most common are ECMWF (ERA-40, ERA-Interim or operational). The resolution of the model is completely variable. Multiannual runs are typically performed at 5×5 degrees while shorter case studies can be run at 1×1.
A unique feature of the CTM is the flexible vertical coordinate. The model can use isentropic levels in the stratosphere (‘SLIMCAT’ mode) or pressure levels (‘TOMCAT’ mode).
The model is written in fortran and runs on most linux/unix platforms. The model is installed on the UK’s high end Hector HPC machine (MPI parallelisation). The model can also run on OpenMP machines (e.g. Leeds Everest) or multicore desktop machines.
