Chomphoo’s research focuses on developing a ‘citizen science’ approach to move from environmental education to education for sustainable development in Thailand. She will use the Environmental Education Programme applied to air pollution monitoring. Currently, the new paradigm shifting from Environmental Education (EE) to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) has encouraged all countries to rethink how to move forward from EE to ESD in this decade. There is a challenge to achieve ESD by empowering people to be responsible and active global citizens. Chomphoo is supervised by Professor Jacquie Burgess and Professor Neil Adger.
Chomphoo holds a first degree in Agriculture and a M.Sc. in Environmental Management. Prior to joining UEA, she has worked as an environmental officer, Department of Environment Quality Promotion (DEQP), Thailand which is responsible for education and promotion of good environmental thinking and behavior amongst the general public. She was also engaged in a project affiliated with the Mekong River Commission (MRC), as the regional focal point for Training of Trainers, as well as developing the environmental curriculum for the officers in the Lower Mekong region (Laos PDR, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam).
