Postdoc at Bigelow Lab for Ocean Sciences
I have recently begun a postdoc working for Paty Matrai at Bigelow Lab for Ocean Sciences and will be measuring DMS and related compounds. I just got back from a long stretch at sea, first the ASCOS cruise in the high Arctic and second VOCALS REx in the equatorial Pacific.
In the summer I submitted my PhD thesis to the University of East Anglia "Shallow Depth Calcium Carbonate Dissolution in an Acidifying Ocean," supervised by Prof. Andy Watson and as part of the Atlantic Meridional Transect (AMT) programme.
Before my PhD I studied Environmental Sciences at UEA with a year spent at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS)/University of Miami.
Most of my recent work is focused on surface ocean CaCO3 dissolution processes, working in collaboration with Dr. Roger Harris of Plymouth Marine Lab and Dr. Paul Thomas of Biological Sciences at UEA. I have sailed on three AMT cruises (13–15) measuring alkalinity, dissolved inorganic carbon and partial pressures of carbon dioxide and oxygen. More broadly I am interested in (mostly aquatic) biogeochemistry and evolutionary biology.
